Fish & Chips - Step 2 - The Fish

If you like fish and chips then chances are you have a favorite fish and chip joint. My apologies go out to all of those fish and chip joints now. It’s amazing how expensive Deep Fried Frozen Foods have become. And how inexpensive it is to make them.

The only thing I had to buy was the Haddock, and I waited until it was on Sale. I got 2 Good Size Haddock Fillets (Cod would work nice too) for Under $5.00. All the other ingredients are usually in my pantry, and most likely your's too.

This Fish and Chip Recipe is light on the wallet, and easy to make. And by using fresh fish and never frozen fries this tastes just as good as the place down the road.

Ingredients: (Serves 1-2)
1 Haddock Fillet
3/4 Cup Flour
1/4 Cup Corn Starch
1/2 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1/2 Teaspoon Paprika
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1 Teaspoon Seasoning Salt
1 1/2 Cups or 12 oz Cold Beer

Directions:
1. Mix all the Dry Ingredients together
2. Cut The Haddock into Desired Sizes
3. Divide the Flour Mix into 2. Place half on a plate, and the other half in a Bowl
4. Add the Beer to the flour mixture in the Bowl and mix well
5. Using the same Oil the fries have cooked in it should already be hot at a medium temperature.
6. Take the Fish Piece by piece and coat in the Dry Mix, then to the wet mix (letting the excess batter drip off), then back to the dry mix, and just leave the fish in the dry mixture until all the pieces are battered and ready.
7. One by one place the fish in the Oil. Using tongs keep flipping the fish so it cooks evenly. This won't take long when using fresh fish, mine was done in about 5 Minutes.
